2024 WASHOUGAL NATIONAL PRE-RACE REPORT: INJURED LIST, TV SCHEDULE & MORE (2024)

Heading into Washougal riders will get a two-week break after the race. It is one of those races where riders want to make a statement and one of those riders is Hunter Lawrence. Jett Lawrence has been able to win the last two rounds in a row and extend his points lead over Lawrence. As we head back to the West, track conditions will be changing from the previous rounds and may work in Lawrence’s favor. As for the 250 Haiden Deegan still sits comfortably in the points lead, but Levi Kitchen coming off a win last weekend can be motivated to do it again at his home track.

2024 WASHOUGAL NATIONAL // FULL COVERAGE

HOMETOWN HERO

Levi Kitchen preparing for Moto One.

Levi Kitchen was born and raised in the city of Washougal Washington. He knows the track like the back side of his hand and coming off a recent win at Millville, Levi is looking to keep the ball rolling into this weekend. Recently the tracks have been more Eastern-based where the dirt is deep and loamy but now back on the West Coast, Washougal is a different type of track. With a slick layer of dirt on top and a hard-packed base, the track becomes extremely rough and rutted. Mixing this with difficult visibility due to shadowing from the trees being experienced with this track is extremely beneficial.

NEEDS TO START NOW

Hunter Lawrence needs a win this weekend.

Hunter Lawrence held the red plate for the first half of the season but over the last few weekends, has let Chase Sexton grab the win, surrendering the red plate. Now Hunter Lawrence needs a win at Washougal to stop the streak that Chase Sexton has created. The points are slowly slipping away and as we head into a couple weeks off of racing, Hunter needs to make a statement this weekend. One thing is for sure, Hunter Lawrence knows how to grab holeshots, he needs to pace himself through the race and be there at the end of the moto to grab the win.

COTY SCHOCK– ARM

Coty Schock suffered a broken arm that will require surgery in a practice crash at Club Mx earlier this week, He will be sitting out the remainder of the motocross series and is not sure on the recovery time for the injury.

NATE THRASHER – COLLARBONE

Nate Thrasher will miss a few rounds due to a shoulder injury.

Nate Thrasher was injured while preparing for the outdoors. He broke his collarbone and bent the plate he had on his collarbone from a previous repair. The Tennessee rider rode with the injury at Hangtown, but further evaluation after the race showed the damage. He underwent surgery after Hangtown to repair the injury and aims to return to riding in eight to 10 weeks.

COOPER WEBB – THUMB

Cooper Webb had closed the points gap on Jett Lawrence in the 450 Supercross Championship only to injure the ulnar ligament in his left thumb. He kept racing, but it was obvious that he had trouble holding on—that allowed Jett Lawrence to pull away in the Championship points chase. Cooper Webb is back to riding however and is looking to return to racing soon.

Cooper Webb said, “It’s disappointing to be missing the beginning of Pro Motocross, but fixing this thumb injury is a must to be at my best for the remainder of the year. The goal is to come back for the final stretch of the outdoor season and come into the SMX playoffs swinging.”

ELI TOMAC – THUMB

Eli Tomac will be sitting out this weekend and possibly in the near future as the crash in Denver resulted in a fracture and torn ligaments in his thumb that will require surgery. Eli will sit out the opening rounds of motocross.

Eli Tomac States: “This is not the news I wanted to break to everyone, but at the Denver Supercross in free practice I crashed on my thumb, and it’s resulted in a Bennett fracture and some torn ligaments that will require surgery to stabilize my thumb. This is a tough one to swallow, knowing that I’m going to miss the opening rounds of motocross, but I’m optimistic I will be able to race the later portion of the outdoor season and the SMX rounds. I want to thank all my fans and Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing for being so supportive through the Supercross season. We will be back stronger in the later half of this season.”

RJ HAMPSHIRE – ARM

RJ Hampshire suffered a broken wrist during press day at Pala Raceway causing him to miss the first round. He will be sidelined for the near future and it is uncertain of his return.

Nathan Ramsey, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team Manager:“The highs and the lows of this sport are sometimes tough to swallow, but unfortunately with RJ taking a spill on press day here at Pala, he has injured his wrist. It’s a setback, but we can all get through this – I know that RJ and the crew will stay positive. RJ’s tough and he’s mentally strong, so he’ll be back as soon as possible.”

KEN ROCZEN – KNEE

Ken Roczen had a scary crash in Nashville when his shock blew apart on the landing of the triple heading into the whoops. Ken was ejected from the motorcycle through the whoops resulting in a leg injury. He will make a return to select outdoor motocross races this season.

Ken Roczen states: “Alright, after further evaluation it looks like I will be out for a little bit. It turns out I broke my tib plateau, my foot, and my toe. No surgery is required as of right now but we are still gathering some information and further evaluation. That’s really all I have for now. Bye bye SX24 you were pretty cool! My fans and partners, you guys make it super fun and it’s a joy coming to the races and get that support you guys give us.”

BENNY BLOSSARM/CLAVICLE

During a practice session during the Supercross series, Liqui Moly Beta Factory rider Benny Bloss sustained a fracture to his arm and collarbone. It is unclear of his return.

Team Manager Carlen Gardner Stated:“I am super bummed for Benny. He has had a fantastic season representing the new 450 RX and we are in such a good spot with him and the bike. This sport likes to test your mental strength every day and all we can take from this situation is that we know the level Benny can get back to and better when he heals up. He will undergo needed surgery and begin the road to recovery. He will be supporting his teammate Colt over the next two rounds as we are still in full swing to better ourselves each weekend”

GUILLEM FARRES – FEMUR

Guillem suffered a broken femur while training for the Daytona Supercross, he will be out for the foreseeable future.

Team Manager Nathan Ramsey states: “Guillem is one of the most liked riders in the industry that I have ever worked with. I am completely gutted that he had an unfortunate crash while testing at the Baker’s Factory. He is not only tough, but he is strong, and we will support him in every way to get him back at the races doing what he loves.”

AUSTIN FORKNER – BACK & SHOULDER

Austin had one of the scarier crashes we’ve seen in a while when he came up short entering a rhythm section which knocked his hand off the bars and sent him flying onto the infield concrete. As a result, he fractured his L3-L4 in his spine as well as a fractured scapula. Fortunately, his injuries did not require surgery, and he is expected to make a full recovery. Austin Forkner is still recovering and will be sitting out the opening rounds of the 2024 AMA Motocross Championship.

ENZO LOPES – FOREARM

Enzo Lopes underwent “Arm Pump” surgery on his forearms, which is claimed to help improve blood flow to the arms. This type of surgery usually takes a few weeks to recover from, but in Enzo’s case, it has been lingering over the last couple of months. He will sit out the opening rounds of the outdoors.

Enzo Lopes said, “Riding for Star Racing comes with a lot of expectations, especially after my momentum from last season. Unfortunately, the cards we were dealt with this off-season were out of our control, and with that, we agreed on missing some rounds. I am super bummed, but I know in the long run this will be the best decision for me and also the team.”

JEREMY MARTIN – COMPLICATIONS FROM HIS CRASH EARLY IN SEASON

Jeremy Martin has decided not to ride the remainder of the 250 East Supercross season due to complications from his crash at round one in Detroit. When Jeremy began training for outdoor motocross he suffered another concussion which extended his recovery time and will miss the opening rounds of outdoor motocross.

Jeremy Martin states: “I am incredibly disappointed to have to make this decision but when it comes to my health and my future, it is the right move. I struggled having to tell the team, but they were completely supportive knowing everything that I have gone through.”

CAMERON MCADOO— SHOULDER

Cameron McAdoo will be sidelined following a practice crash three weeks before Pala.

THE REST OF THE PRO CIRCUIT TEAM—VARIOUS INJURIES

The only Pro Circuit rider who will be racing at Pala is Levi Kitchen (47). Hammaker and McAdoo suffered crashes that aggravated their Supercross injuries while Max Vohland and Austin Forkner are still recovering from injuries suffered earlier this year. Pro Circuit brought in Ty Masterpool in as a fill-in rider last minute.
