I’ll just go ahead and say it: I’m not a natural at thinking of gift ideas. I hem and haw and suffer from decision fatigue.
Especially when it comes to gift ideas for grandmothers (aka for my mother or my mother-in-law), I’ve found it very difficult to know what to get.
For much of my life, I’ve ended up purchasing something last minute, never knowing if my loved ones would even like the gifts I chose.
But my husband is the opposite. He will spend time dreaming, planning, researching, and thinking of the perfect gift ideas for those on his list. He has written many of the popular gift guides for my website because he’s just that good at picking out gifts for others.
I’ve learned a lot from him during our marriage, and one of the things I appreciate learning from him the most is how to give good gifts.
When it comes to buying gifts for people, no one has stumped me more than my parents. My parents don’t have hobbies, and they seem to have, well, everything they could ever want or need already.
But, thanks to my husband, I’ve come up with a list of Mother’s Day gift ideas for grandmas who are hard to buy for. These are gifts we’ve given to both of our moms over the years that have truly been hits.

If the grandmother in your life has a green thumb, a new houseplant may be just the type of gift that would make her day.
Even for those not especially savvy with gardening, there are lots of houseplants that just about anyone can keep from dying!
Not only do houseplants cheer up living spaces, but they are also an excellent way to clean up indoor air quality.
While I always recommend shopping at a local nursery first, if you’re pressed for time, you can even get a houseplant delivered from Amazon!

Gift cards are a versatile option that allows grandmothers to choose exactly what they want.

My husband’s grandmother (the only one of our eightgrandparents still living) loves to read, so our recent go-to for her has been to send her Christian romance novelsorcrossword puzzle books. Both reading and doing interactive crossword puzzle books can keep the mind sharp.

I love this Mother’s Day gift idea for grandmas! Lending a helping hand at grandma’s house may be the only gift she wants.
Some gift ideas that fit into the household help category include:
- Housecleaning:This would probably be my top pick! Of course, you need to make sure the grandmother in your life feels comfortable withsomeone else coming into her home to clean. (Some don’t.) If it’s not in your budget to pay to get the entire home cleaned, you could always pay to clean the area of her choice–like thebathroomsor kitchen. If it’s in your budget to pay for a monthly clean for the entire year, you can do that too! Alternatively, you can give her a homemade coupon to do the house cleaning yourself!
