This review of the best Tom Ford fragrances for men focuses on the male-orientated scents of the collection that are both exquisitely refined and incredibly bold.

1. Tom Ford Beau De Jour Eau de Parfum

Review
Released in 2020,Beau De Jour Eau de Parfumis a manly Aromatic Fougere fragrance that combines lavender and patchouli with herbs and warm amber. This is luxurious barber-shop style fragrance that smells expensive.
The opening is pure lavender, but its soon met by a heart of masculine herbs. Rosemary, oakmoss, mint, and basil all compete for your attention. Earthy geranium also makes a fleeting appearance but is swiftly overpowered. Upon dry-down, rich patchouli works its sweet/musk magic, with amber adding warmth. Very classy.
As for when to wear,Beau De Jouris best suited for the changing seasons of spring and autumn. This is a long-lasting fragrance providing 7+ hours of longevity with decent sillage and projection.
The bottle design is classic-looking with its vertical etched lines and silver cap. The light golden glow of the fragrance makes the overall presentation extremely eye-catching.
Overall,Beau De Jour Eau de Parfumis a mature masculine fragrance that gives a classic barber-shop vibe. It smells incredibly expensive and has true vintage appeal.

2. Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille Eau de Parfum

Review
Tobacco Vanille Eau de Parfum is one of the original scents that launched the Tom Ford fragrance collection into the stratosphere. Loved by niche and mainstream collectors alike, this certainly lives up to the hype.
It transports you to another place, another time—and to me, it’s even another class of society. Warm tobacco envelops you as soft vanilla tickles your nose. It’s a dry scent that’s very reminiscent of a successful and busy lifestyle.
What can I say about Tobacco Vanille? It’s fresh, it’s dark, it’s bright—it’s everything. Tobacco leaf dominates the top note, paired with some spices. Vanilla is in the heart, and it gently tickles the wearer’s nose throughout. Tonka bean, tobacco flower, and a hint of cocoa also accompany the heart.
At its base are dry fruits and woods. That said, the top and heart notes are the main notes detectable through the life of this fragrance. You’ll get all-day use and then some; this is potent juice. It smells best in colder months, given its heavy nature.
This is a very long-lasting fragrance providing 8+ hours of longevity with excellent sillage and projection.
Wearers of both sexes are known to enjoy Tobacco Vanille; both Taylor Swift and Harry Styles are two celebrities to name. Personally, I think it’s rather manly. I never want to be without this in my collection.
Top Notes:
Tobacco Leaf, Spices
Mid Notes:
Tonka Bean, Tobacco blossom, Vanilla, Cacao
Base Notes:
Dried Fruits, Woody Notes

3. Tom Ford Mandarino di Amalfi Eau de Parfum

Review
Fresh out the shower, clean for hours— Mandarino di Amalfi Eau de Parfum sparkles. Fine, it’s a little simple, but what it does, it does it well. I own many fragrances, but I still love Mandarino as much as I did the first sniff—not something I can say about most.
This is a unisex offering than leans a little feminine, but a well-put-together, confident man can pull this off. Its scent is very comforting, and it really does remind you of its namesake—the Amalfi Coast of Italy.
Despite its somewhat simple scent, a lot of notes make it up—too many to list. I’ll name the main ones to my nose. The top has a mandarin, citrusy smell with a touch of mint. Jasmine sits in the heart and is detectable throughout. Musk and very a light vetiver sit in the base.
I once wore it in the area of its namesake, and it felt absolutely perfect. The way it plays in the breeze is absolutely amazing, and it takes me there every time I spray it. Longevity is 5+ hours with reasonable sillage and projection.
Hot weather is where Mandarino di Amalfi shines, but on a cold rainy day, if I’m inside, I’ll spray this on for a smile of sunshine. It’s easy-to-wear, and while I’ll wear it with a suit, I think it feels at its best with a bathing suit by the pool. The gorgeous blue of the bottle matches this simplistic masterpiece.
Top Notes:
Tarragon, Mint, Blackcurrant, Grapefruit, Lemon, Basil
Mid Notes:
Black Pepper, Coriander, Orange Blossom, Clary, Sage, Shiso, Jasmine

Vetiver, Amber, Labdanum, Musk, Civet

4. Tom Ford F***ing Fabulous Eau de Parfum

Review
F***ing Fabulous Eau de Parfum: You either get it, or you don’t. This is definitely an artistic take on perfumery. The opening is almost a “stench,” but not in a bad way at all. It’s entirely captivating; you’ve probably never smelled anything like it. I find it to be quite a luxury smell.
Once it dries down after about 30 mins to an hour, it turns into a cloud of scent—not at all abrasive as its opening may suggest. It’s a little dark and quite formal in its approach, which makes it an excellent choice for black tie events, as its bottle may suggest.
Almond is on full display, which actually is a bit bitter in a pleasing manner. Clary sage oil is also rather prominent and very invigorating. Tonka is added for a more smoothened effect. A touch of expensive leather tickles your nose—the type of smell that would be in a luxury car. Lastly, cashmeran is featured.
F***ing Fabulous is a long-lasting fragrance providing 8+ hours of performance with excellent sillage and projection.
Whereas most “normal” department store fragrances feel like a T-shirt and jeans; F***ing Fabulous is a peak lapel tuxedo. In a world of citruses and gourmands, this is a stand-out offering. Definitely try before you buy, but I bet once you try, you’ll want to buy.
Top Notes:
Clary, Sage, Lavender
Mid Notes:
Bitter Almond, Vanilla, Leather, Orris
Base Notes:
Tonka Bean, Leather, Cashmeran, Amber, Woods

5. Tom Ford Venetian Bergamot Eau de Parfum

Review
Venetian Bergamot Eau de Parfum is one of the smoothest citrus-based fragrances out there. This one is very unisex, but I love wearing it as a man because most citrus scents aren’t as thick and have this level of longevity.
It’s honestly a bit, I daresay, creamy smelling—maybe like a lemon-lime gourmet popsicle. While it’s not a gourmand, it does smell delicious. The opening notes are crisp bergamot, black pepper, and pink pepper. A seductive heart features spiced ginger, ylang-ylang, magnolia, gardenia, cedarwood, and rosewood. Sublime.
The base smooths it out with sandalwood, tonka bean, amber, and cashmere. Venetian Bergamot is a perfect blend of citrus, floral, and softwoods. For a few months, this was the favourite of my collection, and still in the top 5.
Venetian Bergamot is long-lasting at 5+ hours with good sillage and projection.
Top Notes:
Bergamot, Black Pepper, Pink Pepper, Ginger
Mid Notes:
Ylang-Ylang, Gardenia, Cedar, Magnolia
Base Notes:
Sandalwood, Tonka Bean, Amber, Cashmeran

6. Tom Ford Tuscan Leather Eau de Parfum

Review
Tuscan Leather Eau de Parfum is another of the originals that helped boost the brand’s humble beginnings. The scent is a rich leather, as the name suggests. It shows a sweet side, too, thanks to a touch of raspberry.
The opening notes are warm saffron, fresh raspberry, and thyme. The heart has olibanum and sweet jasmine (very light). The base (detectable throughout) has leather/suede mixed with amber and light woods.
While Tuscan Leather doesn’t have oud, I’ve noticed those who don’t like oud may not like this one. Some fragrances that imitate this one, such as Clive Christian C Woody Leather, do feature oud. However, the majority of people are going to love this one.
As with most Tom Ford fragrances, this is a long-lasting scent. You can expect 7+ hours of performance with decent sillage and projection.
Canadian rapper, Drake, even named a song after this scent. It does smell pleasantly rich and addictive. It is worth noting that Ombre Leather in the Signature (lower-priced) collection is like a toned-down version.
Top Notes:
Saffron, Raspberry, Thyme
Mid Notes:
Olibanum, Jasmine
Base Notes:
Leather, Suede, Amber, Woody Notes

7. Tom Ford Italian Cypress Eau de Parfum

Review
A rare gem to find in Tom Ford’s collection,Italian Cypress Eau de Parfumis viewed by many as his greatest discontinued masterpiece. It’s hard not to draw a connection to Ralph Lauren’s ubiquitous Polo Green. If you like that, then you’ll absolutely love this as it’s a slightly more modern version and offers much more depth.
Its notes are light citruses, basil, mint, cypress, and a few other miscellaneous woods. The dry down is the most beautiful wood with such a heady and herbaceous green.
To me, it’s going to shine in the Fall, but I imagine plenty would end up wearing it year-round. It feels very tailored, sophisticated, and distinguished.
If you can find a bottle, you won’t regret having this in your collection. Longevity is 7+ hours.
Top Notes:
Citruses, Mint
Mid Notes:
Basil
Base Notes:
Woodsy Notes, Italian Cypress

8. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Forte Eau de Parfum

Review
Neroli Portofino Forte Eau de Parfum is the quintessential “cologne” scent, in the “Forte” version that’s made to be stronger and last longer. In my opinion, it dials up the masculine attributes of the original version.
Of all Tom Ford offerings, this is the safest, do-it-all, any time of the day, any day of the year, and any occasion scent—the Swiss Army Knife of fragrance.
Whether I’m in an Italian suit or a pair of jeans, this doesn’t feel out of place. Even if you over-sprayed, it’s very non-offensive and probably wouldn’t choke anyone out.
Neroli Portofino Forte opens with a heavy dose of neroli, bergamot, and blood orange that are fresh yet sexy. A heart of lavender, basil, galbanum, and orange blossom are similar to a fougère scent. The base has a light leather, woods, and musk.
Performance is excellent. You can expect Neroli Portofino Forte to last 6+ hours with good sillage and projection.
Pro-tip: pair it with the matching scent Tom Ford beard oil to fully immerse yourself in this beautiful scent-cloud.
Top Notes:
Neroli, Bergamot, Blood Orange
Mid Notes:
Lavender, Basil, Galbanum, Orange Blossom
Base Notes:
Leather, Woody Notes, Musk

9. Tom Ford Lost Cherry Eau de Parfum

Review
If I had to have just one fragrance in my collection, it honestly might be Lost Cherry Eau de Parfum. The majority of people are going to be struck by this “wow” moment of the velvety soft blend.
Macho man, this isn’t you. Instead, this is a perfect choice for a more polished wardrobe; unlike anything you’d find at a drugstore—great for those, “What are you wearing?!” reactions. With so many guys smelling of Creed Aventus, this is the perfect answer to stand out from the crowd.
From its first spray, cherry smacks your nose. Some find it to be like a car freshener, but I think it smells exquisite—like the cherry on top of the perfect outfit.
How long that note last will vary from person to person, but for me, it takes about an hour before the curtains close on it, but glimmers of its light last through the rest of its life—thanks to the cherry syrup. Some find it really find the cherry really is quickly “lost,” as the name suggests.
Bitter almond is the perfect compliment for the cherry note, and the Turkish rose and jasmine sambac beautifully marry a light floral aspect.
The base notes last until it’s washed off, where it becomes a skin scent after about 8+ hours.
These are Peru balsam, roasted tonka bean, sandalwood, vetiver, and cedarwood. The dry downstage is so incredibly smooth, and I’m so impressed every time I wear it.
Lost Cherry is best worn in colder months, but it’s not terrible in hot weather—I just would prefer something fresher. This is one of my most recommended cold weather fragrances.
Top Notes:
Cherry, Rum, Bitter Almond
Mid Notes:
Turkish Rose, Jasmine Sambac, Plum
Base Notes:
Peru Balsam, Tonka Bean, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Cedar, Benzoin, Cinnamon Cloves, Patchouli, Vanilla

10. Tom Ford Fougère Platine Eau de Parfum

Review
Go easy on the sprayer; Fougère Platine Eau de Parfum is a BOMB with huge projection and longevity. Every time I wear it, I look crazy sniffing my wrist throughout the day.
Clary sage and lavender sit among a herbaceous, green base. The clary sage is a bit metallic, making the English translated name of “Platinum Fern” make more sense. Tobacco and wood add a welcome layer of refinement.
In a world of very “modern” and synthetic smelling designer scents, this is a taste of old-world beauty. This is a mature man. It feels Art Deco with pinstripes on Wall Street, but not overly so.
Fougère Platine Eau de Parfum will last 6-7 hours with good sillage and projection. You will know you have it on but it will not clear the room.
While it would probably suit your dad, Fougère Platine is still not all out of place on a 20-something-year-old with its timeless luxury. It’s heavy, a little stern, and perhaps regal. I think it shines best in the cold, especially Fall.
Top Notes:
Bergamot, Clary, Sage, Lavender, Basil
Mid Notes:
Artemisia, Olibanum, Spanish Labdanum, Honey
Base Notes:
Cedar, Tobacco, Woody Notes

11. Tom Ford Oud Wood Eau de Parfum

Review
Tom Ford Oud Wood Eau de Parfum is perhaps the most popular oud fragrance of all time—probably because it’s not like a “true” oud fragrance that’s overly loud and in your face.
Top notes featured are rosewood, cardamon, and Chinese pepper. The heart (detectable from the start) has oud, sandalwood, and vetiver. Finally, the base has tonka bean, vanilla, and amber. It’s a smooth oud fragrance, veering on the edge of being medicinal.
It’s very tame, but not quite understated. It will get noticed and certainly smells expensive. To me, oud is usually quite sharp, but not this. It’s a lot more refined, almost soft. It does have that slightly medicinal vibe.
Longevity is 4-5 hours befor becoming a skin scent that fully fades after 8 hours. Decent sillage and projection.
Of all the Tom Ford fragrances with oud (other than Costa Azzura), Oud Wood Eau de Parfum is likely the easiest to wear. The others are very in-your-face and quite different from each other.
Top Notes:
Cardamom, Sichuan Pepper
Mid Notes:
Sandalwood, Vetiver, Tonka Bean, Vanilla
Base Notes:
Oud, Brazilian Rosewood, Amber

12. Tom Ford Velvet Gardenia Eau de Parfum

Review
Although Velvet Gardenia Eau de Parfum is unisex and leaning feminine, this is my favourite choice for men with floral tastes. It’s just heavy enough to be unisex—not a very light and dainty floral. Its inspiration is drawn from the gardenia Tom Ford wears in the lapel of his tuxedos.
If you love gardenia, then this is a spray of uplifting Heaven. To me, Mandarino di Amalfi and this are like happiness put into a bottle; it’s hard for me to feel bad when I’m wearing these.
Top notes are jasmine, lily of the valley, and orange. The heart notes are gardenia (very realistic one—good and bad sides), plum, rose, and tuberose. The base is beeswax, honey, labdanum, and light incense. It’s very addictive, leaving me with “wow” moments as it wafts up throughout the day.
It’s currently still in production under the Private Reserve Collection. Their bottles have a golden plate adorned to the bottle rather than a golden sticker label—a nicely elevated touch.
This is a nearly photorealistic gardenia with jasmine playing in the background throughout its life. Longevity is 6+ hours.
Top Notes:
Cardamom, Sichuan Pepper
Mid Notes:
Sandalwood, Vetiver, Tonka Bean, Vanilla
Base Notes:
Oud, Brazilian Rosewood, Amber

Which Tom Ford Men’s Fragrance Smells The Best?
The best smelling Tom Ford fragrance for men has to beTobacco Vanille Eau de Parfum. This crowd-pleasing masculine fragrance blends tobacco, vanilla and spices to devastating effect. A seductive base of dried fruits and wood is simply the icing on the cake. Longevity is 8+ hours.
Tobacco Vanille Official Promo
Still not convinced? Be prepared to get reeled in with the dark and moody promo of the all-time classic Tobacco Vanille Eau de Parfum.
Conclusion
Enticed? Well, you should be! If you can’t get to a Tom Ford counter to test, I recommend Tobacco Vanille or Lost Cherry would make great blind buys. As a warning, all it takes is one bottle to get hooked. Happy shopping!
Tom Ford is easily my favourite house. Although the price point is relatively high, even for niche perfumery. Luckily, bottles can readily be found at discounters.
Be aware that due to being a prominent brand, there are TF fakes aplenty, so it’s best to steer clear of any deals that seem too-good-to-be-true. While the price tag typically is still relatively high even with a discount, a little usually goes a long way, so that improves its value.
Please note that there are EDT versions of some of the Private Blend fragrances featured here. These are similar, but they typically aren’t as long-lasting or complex. The price reflects this. Additionally, the “Signature” collection is offered with wider availability and lower pricing.
As a luxury niche fragrance connoisseur, I stuck to the big guns of the brand. There are mainstays in the collection, like Tobacco Vanille, Oud Wood, and Tuscan Leather. Still, sadly, many are subject to being discontinued after a few years with little notice—especially some of the “out there,” artsy choices.
Luckily, most of his fragrances aren’t affected by batch variation (ahem, take notes, Creed), so bottles are consistent. Don’t forget to check our review of Tom Ford perfumes for women that offer an eclectic blend of forbidden fruits, florals and spices.

The Man Behind The Brand

Fords entry into the spotlight wasn’t due to fragrance; it was fashion. He made a name for himself by becoming known as luxury brand Gucci’s saviour. Single-handedly launching the style of Gucci into new territory with unique and daring looks in the 90s after sales had been previously declining.
It wasn’t without controversy, as conservative critics at the time found many designs too over-the-top and scandalous. The public’s pocketbooks, however, disagreed. Ford quickly found himself with significant creative control as head director over all the lines for Gucci Group (GG), including the companies’ fragrance offerings.
Once GG acquired YSL, Ford made another miraculous brand transformation. Under his control, GG went from $230m to $3b in sales within 10 years. Ford surprised the world when leaving GG in 2004 at age 43, citing displeasure with the role and wanting to pivot to a career of film directing. After a brief stint, Ford launched his namesake brand, Tom Ford, and his popularity has further grown. The lines carried range from fine suiting, dresses, and high-end cosmetics. Oh, and yes—fragrances.
Funnily, Ford once stated that the target customer is Tom Ford himself: someone who’s “international, cultured, well-travelled, and possessing disposable income.” The fragrance collection that he offers perfectly translates to this description.
Wearers can smell like a million bucks in his scents, and the style and variety are abundant with something for everyone. Most offerings aren’t something light, they’re often bold statements. Ford quickly made an impact on the fragrance world—just as he did for fashion.
